    Dear Mr. Finn:

I read your WSJ piece with interest. It left me wondering about you. How could someone who does a fairly decent job of describing the problems in Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota and in fact most all of the USA be so off the mark when it comes to solutions? And, be so off the mark on causation.

Example, how did the teachers’ unions cause GM and NCR to close their plants?

Ohio did not cause deindustralization; desindustralization of the North has been a conscious Federal Government policy, starting with the movement of factories to the non-union South, then Mexico, then China.

Second, Ohio is not responsible for the poor shape of Ohio’s largest companies, which is the principal reason for Ohio’s problems

Third, if the solution is what you imply—raising the number of residents with bachelor’s degrees, say from 41st to 5th, how does one do such other than increasing taxes and raising sending on education at all levels?

Fourth, when has any Republican ever created a City that one can describe as “lively” in the evening?
