Will Obama kill education reform?

It’s a good question. When he made Linda Darling-Hammond (cue: Mike groaning) his lead education advisor, we thought the odds were good. Now former (only literally—he’s still one of us in spirit!) Fordhamite Liam Julian speculates on National Review Online .

    Two ways to read it.

    1. How Liam did.

    2. Obama felt a little bad about pretty much rejecting a lot of LDH stuff midway during election, and siding with pro-reform advisors.

So he gave her transition job, but will pick reform-minded Sec.

And least, that’s what I’m trying to convince myself.

  2. Erin Johnson:

Politically there is no benefit for Pres-elect. Obama to improve schools. Just taking away the onerous mandates of NCLB would be enough to gain him great accolades with many in the teachers/ed world.

Why would he ever stick his neck out and actually advocate reforms that would change/improve schools that might upset the status quo when there are many other more pressing issues: economy/war/etc.?
